Welcome back to our Nurse Debriefing no. 24! For this week, we will be sharing our nursing stories. I, for one, had my longest shift for the week. I ended up working a 16-hour shift, which was an interesting experience. 😅 Nurses in this hospital come in at 7 am, 11 am, and so on, but the best part is you can pick over time, so I stayed until 11 am for this ICU shift. The advantage of this is I could see how they run the hospital during the day shift and how they get things done. I also saw how the rounding is a little different in this hospital. They make sure to visit each room as a group. They also ask each nurse questions so that by 9 am (rounds), so everything else is adressed and ready for the shift. All in all, it wasn't a bad experience at all, but I have to admit I was exhausted, maybe because my body clock re-adjusted my sleeping time again. #Nightshiftproblems 🥱
On the other hand, Peter had some pretty interesting stories too. He started as a Step-down nurse and then ended up working in the ICU because someone coded in ED. This particular patient had cancer called Merkel Cell Carcinoma and had a small chance of surviving it. His family was debating if he would be a Full Code or DNR. And while this was the family situation, Pete's patient began coding! They were able to bring him back for a bit, but the question is, did he go DNR or full code? 😧 Find out the answer by watching the full episode!
