Description

Over the past few years, I've become a big believer in speaking things into existence.

At the end of this episode I say, "I'm going to a seminar where Bret Contreras is speaking tomorrow. I'm going to ask him to come on the podcast."

The next day, I attended his seminar. He answered a lot of stereotypical training questions. But, he didn't answer them in a stereotypical strength coach way. He told a lot of stories. I'm a natural storyteller, so I loved it. I loved hearing about his life and perspective.

What resonated with me the most, was when he spoke about how burn out he was early in his coaching career. And that it wasn't until he stop coaching clients 10-12 hours a day that he actually started to realize his true potential. Writing an ebook, starting a blog, speaking at seminars, starting an online training business, etc are all things he wouldn't have done if he continued spending a bulk of his time training in-person clients. That really resonated with me. Because, I had a similar experience.

Bret is an incredibly smart, talented, likable guy. You don't get to where he is in life without being those things. But, what I respect the most about him... is his life story and how he went after his dreams even when some of the people closest to him doubted him.

When he published his first ebook, his dad told him... and I quote, "no one is going to buy your fucking ebook." Boy, was he wrong.

I stuck around after the seminar and waited until everyone was done taking selfies with him to approach him.

I was scared, but I approached him anyways. I told him he was one of the first coaches I ever heard speak at a Perform Better Conference in Chicago. I told him that his story really resonated with me. And then... I asked him if he'd come on the podcast. He said, "absolutely, just send me an email."

I was so excited. I turned and took a picture with him. My buddy messed up the picture.

I didn't care.

I can't wait to hang and pick Bret's brain.

Stayed tuned!

Much love to all my listeners!
