Description

In this unique edition of JGF Amplified, we have the Jakes Gerwel Fellowship (JGF) in the spotlight. The Fellowship recently hosted an event on 20 October 2022, where we invited thought leaders in the education space and delved into the pressing needs that will change the education system in South Africa for the better. Our CEO, Julian Hewitt starts off with an orientation of JGF, the work we do and our achievements thus far, and then our Candidate Fellow, Palesa Mlambo tells us her story and the journey to becoming a teacher. Newly qualified teacher and JGF Fellow, Sphiwe Mnisi shares his story of a career in corporate and why he wanted to pivot and follow a career path that makes a significant impact. Lastly, the Head of our Graduate Teaching Fellowship, Carla Watson, Programme Director, Jeremy Gibbon, Palesa Mlambo and Sphiwe Mnisi sit on a panel moderated by our host Mathabo Tlali and they discuss the future of the Fellowship, and the reason we are on a mission to make teaching an aspiring career. This episode is packed with heart-warming anecdotes and what stands out is the reason we do what we do - to nurture expert teachers who embrace innovation and lead change. Share this episode. Anyone who has ever had a teacher needs to hear this.
