Prophecies about Knowledge
David W Palmer
Today, we look at several prophecies from the Bible about knowledge.
1. Knowledge Shall Increase In the End Time
(Daniel 12:4 NKJV) “But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”
Daniel made this prediction thousands of years ago. It foretells lots of travel, and we are certainly seeing that in our day—around 600,000 passengers are in the air on flights at any given time. It also predicts that knowledge will increase. We are seeing the fulfilment of this too, both in the natural and in the spiritual sense.
Natural knowledge is increasing, and it is an important contemporary commodity; so much so that we have termed this the “Information Age.” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information_Age).
True revealed Spiritual knowledge has also increased as God fulfils this prophecy and pours out his spirit of wisdom and revelation (See: Eph. 1).
2. The Knowledge of the Lord Shall Fill the Earth
(Isaiah 11:9 NKJV) “They shall not hurt nor destroy in all My holy mountain, For the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD As the waters cover the sea.”
This Scripture prophesies that the knowledge of the Lord shall fill the earth. What does this mean? First, “knowledge of the Lord” means that people will know about the Lord. Second, it means that people will know what his being Lord means—having personally experienced his Lordship in their lives. That is, that they have submitted themselves to him, obeying His word and directives. Or at least they have had to acknowledge his position as Lord through seeing it displayed—say through healings, miracles, or specific and miraculous answers to prayer.
Furthermore, God eternally saves people when they make Jesus Lord of their lives (Heb. 5:9, Rom. 10:9–10). Therefore, we can only say that the knowledge of the Lord fills the earth when people both know about Jesus, and/or have submitted to him.
The above promise from Isaiah, then, must be talking about the great waves of revival that are sweeping the world today; more than 30% of the world’s population is now classed as Christian—showing that at least they have some knowledge of the Lord Jesus. However, many places and peoples are yet to be filled with the true knowledge of the Lord. This will not happen overnight, but according to this promise, it will happen.
3. Experience the Knowledge of Salvation
(Luke 1:77 NKJV) “To give knowledge of salvation to His people by the remission of their sins.”
Here Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist, declared prophetically by the Holy Spirit that his son would give “knowledge of salvation.” This kind of knowledge is experiential, that is, it is really knowing the fullness of the salvation that God provides by experiencing it. He mentions forgiveness of sins as a prerequisite for this experience. It is therefore our responsibility to receive the forgiveness of sins, and as a result to experience the knowledge of salvation.
The Holy Spirit confirms in the following Scripture that God wants all people to experience his salvation, and to come to the full knowledge of the truth. Full knowledge of the truth therefore, from this context, would especially include the truth about salvation; God wants everyone to experience salvation, and to confess Jesus as their Lord.
(1 Timothy 2:4 NKJV) “who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
Today, I encourage you to do your part in ensuring that the knowledge of the Lord fills the earth—especially the knowledge of salvation:
