(Habakkuk 2:14 NKJV) “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, As the waters cover the sea.”
Here we see God promising to fill the whole earth with the knowledge of his Glory! This is more specific than the promise to fill the earth with the knowledge of the Lord, and it is a very exciting prospect. I believe that we will see the fulfilment of it in our day. This, I believe, is speaking of people coming to know the glory of God by experiencing it.
Today, many people around the world are enjoying the manifestation of God’s glory in an unprecedented way. His promise is that this experiential knowledge will increase until it fills the whole earth. Wow! These prophecies about the increase in knowledge in the end times are very encouraging. What God has promised, he can do. Not only that, but we have a part to play in this very exciting prophecy. First, we need to ensure we know exactly what God is talking about when he uses the word, “glory.”
From the definition of the original words, God’s glory is his weighty presence, and his reputation. What else can we learn about God’s glory?
1. God Is the God of Glory
(Acts 7:2 NKJV) “And he said, “Brethren and fathers, listen: The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Haran.”
(Isaiah 6:3 NKJV) And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!”
(Ephesians 5:27 NKJV) “That He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.”
2. Jesus’s Prayer about Glory
(John 17:22 NKJV) “And the glory which you gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one.”
3. A Bible Description of Glory
(Exodus 24:16–17 NKJV) “Now the glory of the LORD rested on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days. And on the seventh day He called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud. {17} The sight of the glory of the LORD was like a consuming fire on the top of the mountain in the eyes of the children of Israel.”
(2 Chronicles 5:13–14 NKJV) “Indeed it came to pass, when the trumpeters and singers were as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD, and when they lifted up their voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of music, and praised the LORD, saying: “For He is good, For His mercy endures forever,” that the house, the house of the LORD, was filled with a cloud, {14} so that the priests could not continue ministering because of the cloud; for the glory of the LORD filled the house of God.”
Today, let’s get excited about being part of the glorious church, and about seeing the glory of the Lord covering the earth. Perhaps this is the greatest time ever for his church; it is going to be glorious—and we are destined to be part of it.
We have to be aware, however, that the church for which Jesus is returning will be holy and without blemish. You can be part of it if you walk in the spirit and keep the “old man” off through the renewing of your mind. Again, I encourage you to heed Psalm 1, which says that the “blessed” man meditates in God’s word day and night. If we follow his example, we can be part of all the glorious celebration, outpouring, and excitement of the bride of Christ anticipating the marriage supper of the Lamb:
(Psalm 1:1–3 NKJV)
(Revelation 19:7–9 NKJV)
