In this episode, I, host Annabelle Higgins, chat with Austin Tichenor about Shakespeare on stage vs page, academia vs performance and the wonders of bio-fiction.

Austin Tichenor is an actor, playwright, and co-Artistic Director of the Reduced Shakespeare Company, for which he’s co-authored and co-directed ten stage comedies that he’s performed off-Broadway, in London’s West End, at the White House, and in venues across the country and around the world. His RSC work includes the stage plays William Shakespeare’s Long Lost First Play (abridged)andHamlet’s Big Adventure! (a prequel)the illustrated children’s book Pop-Up Shakespearethe six-part Reduced Shakespeare Radio Show for the BBC World Service; and playing Hamlet, Macbeth, and Titus Andronicus (among others) in the TV film version of The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged).

Other TV credits include recurring roles on 24, Alias, Ally McBeal, The Practice, and Felicity; plus various guys in ties on The West Wing, Gilmore Girls, NYPD Blue, ER, The X-Files, and shows like them.

Austin writes about the intersection of Shakespeare and popular culture for the Folger Shakespeare Library, and since 2006, has produced and hosted the Reduced Shakespeare Company Podcast,  the world’s longest-running weekly theater podcast.
