When you have your ACL repaired, knee replaced or rotator cuff repair, a physical therapy referral is the standard of care. The goals of therapy are to improve motion, decrease scar tissue, and improve overall function. When you undergo a hysterectomy, C-section, or other abdominal/pelvic surgery, therapy is almost never prescribed. In most cases patients who undergo abdominal surgeries stand to benefit from physical therapy just as much as patients who undergo orthopedic procedures. This episode Callie and Rachel discuss a generic break down of the most common abdominal/pelvic surgical procedures and why these patients would benefit from therapy.
