David Max Steinberg is a multifaceted filmmaker and esteemed adjunct professor known for his expertise in lighting and cinematography. With a background spanning New York, Atlanta, and LA, he has successfully worked on numerous projects, including writing, directing, and shooting the acclaimed feature film "Severance," which secured distribution. His passion for teaching and mentoring is evident through his roles at San Diego State University Department of Theatre, Film, and Television and USC School of Cinematic Arts, where he imparts invaluable knowledge and guidance to aspiring filmmakers.
David Max Steinberg is a cinematographer, director, producer, and professor at San Diego State University Department of Theatre, Film, and Television, where he teaches production and directing. He previously designed the production curriculum at the University of California, San Diego's Digital Arts Center in La Jolla, CA.
An M.F.A. graduate from the New York University Graduate Institute of Film & Television (1985), and a former I.A.T.S.E. Local 600 Director of Photography, Mr. Steinberg's directorial debut (the feature film "Severance" (1988)), won an invitation to appear in Italy at the Florence Feature Film Festival where it found international distribution with Fox / Lorber Associates, Inc.
He was signed with the William Morris Agency at 29. Preferring work behind the camera, David left the Morris agency and moved to Los Angeles where he photographed features for Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus of Cannon Films. He joined I.A.T.S.E as a Director of Photography in 1992.
Music video credits involve projects for Prince, Roxy Music, Lee Ritenour, Diamond Rio, and Miles Davis, Donald Fagan. Commercial clients include Booz Allen Hamilton, Harvard University, Good Morning American, Mike Nichols & Diane Sawyer, The DuBois Institute, Katherin Dunham Dance, PBS, and others.
