In this episode, we explore the literal journey to making the documentary Arrowhead with filmmaker Janey McGill. She shares the journey of walking the empty quarter over 28 days and the bond from it. Arrowhead is about three ordinary women, one British and two Omani, who embark on a grueling expedition to become the first modern women to cross the vast stretch of barren waste in the heart of the Arabian Desert, known as Rub’ al Khali or the Empty Quarter.
Janey McGill is an explorer with a legal and military background. She suffered a life-altering injury in a horse racing accident and subsequent loss of career and purpose. Overcoming this adversity and feeling a distinct lack of belonging outside of the military sparked her desire to challenge boundaries and explore beyond them. She is passionate about leading physically, culturally, and socially challenging expeditions around the globe. 'Her Faces of Change' marked her first group expedition, which set out not only to become the first all-female expedition across The Empty Quarter, but to promote cultural understanding behind the rallying cry of "better together". Arrowhead is Janey's first film.
