In this episode, we take a deep dive into the documentary The Gibraltar Project with filmmaker Rosita Laila.
"The Gibraltar Project" is a feature documentary with a global perspective; it dives into the issues of abortion access and reproductive justice in Gibraltar and the USA and juxtaposes the two. As art so often imitates life, the story has evolved as events on the ground have unfolded in real-time. We have been fortunate enough to have been there to witness it and capture it. The documentary started as a journey diving into the quest to decriminalize abortion in Gibraltar and, recently the criminalization of abortion sweeping across the US; as such, it's unveiled the cracks of democracy and asks us, "are we now witnessing the unraveling of democracy"? Is there a way forward? Drawing upon my own cultural roots (from the UK, Spain, Gibraltar, and Iran), the journey has most recently led us to the story of Iran and the first female led revolution unfolding before our eyes - all tied back together in a fascinating journey examining the zeitgeist of the modern-day "emergence of the feminine" we are experiencing throughout global societies today.
