Today we talk about the different Testimonies God gives us, and a few of the ways that different testimonies can be uniquely valuable.
Transcript:
Good morning, defenders. Happy Monday today. I want to talk to you guys about something that has been showing up more often in my conversations with believers and is something that I really find to be interesting. So I had to meditate on, I had to think about it and I had to dig into it to figure out what I thinks going on here. What I think the benefits are, what I think the problems are. And it's this, that there seems to be some like cultural angst around the story that God gives people. So the general story that people have on their coming to accept Christ people seem to have a desire for a story different than their own. And I don't know exactly where that's coming from, but I think there's this, this longing to be, to have something more theatrical is what I think is the most common narrative that I find.
So when I think about, I, I think that in a broad sense, you can generalize people's stories, people's testimonies to a couple broad categories. And I think there's the, I think there's the, I grew up in the church story and I think there's the, uh, the hardship come to Jesus moment St. Story. And I think that there is one that is less common, but it's my story. There's an apologetic story of following the evidence and that evidence, bringing you to Christ. I look at that and I think that what most people want and think exists inside I a story other than their own is some immaculate divine, special revelation. And I think in that they miss the realization that regardless of what your story is, you were given an immaculate divine special revelation, whether it's through the Bible, which is special revelation, whether it's through others, like your parents, teaching you about Christ, which is special revelation, whether it's through studying the evidence, which is special revelation, whether it's God coming to you in a vision or you hearing God's voice, or it, it doesn't matter how our story, he came to us.
Everybody's story has special revelation embedded in it. Now I do think that God gives the different story types for specific reasons. And I think that the story type that he gives you might be a hint as to how God wants to use you to help the advancement of his kingdom, because he uses our stories to advance the kingdom. Now, when I look at those general types that come to Jesus moment, or the grew up in the church story or the apologetics, one thing that I know having talked to a lot of atheists on college campuses is that the come to Jesus moment and the grew up in the church story, those are two story types that are not compelling to skeptical atheists. And to an extent the, that makes sense to me. And I can, I can relate to that in that if you grew up in the church, then you can't convince me that you don't believe in God, simply because your parents believe in God.
