Today I am going to sound a little bit like an anthropologist
It’s going to sound a little bit like I am attempting to explain away the truths of scripture… I promise I’m not.
I am going to speak about something that I think is probably ALSO true:
The virtue of self-sacrifice
Step 1: We observe that sometimes we can sacrifice today for a better tomorrow (delayed gratification)
Step 2: We realize that when sacrificing today for tomorrow is possible, it is preferable
Step 3: We recognize that this is easier said than done
The virtue of self-sacrifice is born
If we follow this to it’s logical extreme, it gets us to sacrificing our own lives or the lives of our loved ones for a greater good.
Affirmed when Abraham is willing to sacrifice Isaac (Genesis 22)
