Third and last episode of this arc on "The Metaverse". Today, Raffaele Battaglini's guest speaker is Prof. Pınar Çağlayan Aksoy who tackles the interesting topic of how the metaverse can affect law firms and legal services.


About: Pınar Çağlayan Aksoy is an associate professor of civil law and law of obligations at Bilkent University, Ankara (Turkey). She is a member of Blockchain Turkey Platform, Istanbul Blockchain Women Community and University of Zurich Blockchain Center. As a member of the European Law Institute, she acted as a member of the Consultative Committee for the project titled “Blockchain Technology and Smart Contracts” and is currently involved in the project titled “Model Rules on Algorithmic Contracts: Draft ELI Report on EU Consumer Law and Automated Decision-Making”. She is the project manager of the research project titled “Legal Analysis of Smart Contracts Established in Blockchain with a focus on Applicable Law, Protection of Personal Data and Consumers” funded by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK). Her recent publications include, “The Regulation of NFTs: Much Ado About Nothing?”, Business Law Review, Vol 44, Issue 4, 2023; “AI as Agents”, The Cambridge Handbook of Artificial Intelligence: Global Perspectives on Law and Ethics, (Edited by Larry A. She has written chapters for two forthcoming book projects on the intersection of emerging technologies and law titled, Metaverse and the Law (ed. Michel Cannarsa and Larry A. DiMatteo) (with a chapter contribution titled ‘Legal Services and the Metaverse’) and Artificial Intelligence and Consumers (ed. Larry A. DiMatteo, Cristina Poncibo and Geraint Howells) (with a chapter contribution titled ‘AI and Smart Consumer Contracts’). Her research deals with contract law, tort law as well as the legal implications of the newly emerging technologies, especially distributed ledger technology and smart contracts.
