- Ishq-e-Nafsani (Carnal Love) involves the Lower Self; there is always some motive of the Lower Self behind this type of love. What we see depicted in movies and hear about in songs these days is all Ishq-e-Nafsani. The relationships between boyfriends and girlfriends are Ishq-e-Nafsani. This type of love is prohibited because it increases negative energy in the Lower Self. It becomes a hurdle on the spiritual path because the negative energy from the Lower Self mixes in the bloodstream and makes a person lose their sanity.
- Ishq-e-Majazi (Platonic/Romantic Love) used to be used by Spiritual Guides as a stepping stone towards Ishq-e-Haqiqi (God’s Love). It was acceptable to God as a method in spirituality in the past, but it was abolished by God sometime later. It is not between two Lower Selves; rather, it is between souls who developed a spiritual attachment with each other when they lived together in the Realm of Souls. When they would come on Earth at the same time and meet each other, they would instantly develop this type of love for each other. It is a pure type of love, therefore, it was easy for Spiritual Guides to use in order to teach disciples the emotions and temperament of love before taking them towards Ishq-e-Haqiqi (God’s Love).
