Amauta is a visual artist whose works have received international attention. Her work speaks to "gentrification". In many cities older apartments and homes are destroyed and subsequently luxurious apartments and homes are constructed in their places. This has rendered it unaffordable to the younger generation who earn a medium income to buy an apartment or home. She has recognized that this movement is replicated in numerous major cities around the world. Her work speaks to this problem and her other work - a documentary and other projects - takes the discussion further, asking us to reflect on our relationship with the subsoil.
