"Why are the comments disabled?" 1) Scrolling through comments is the consumption of other people's opinions about a piece of content before forming your own opinion 2) You are exposed to potentially hundreds (or more) of people/opinions (which humans aren't designed for; leading to serious issues) 3) There are very few barriers to writing a comment on YouTube. Therefore, many comments are not thought out and therefore I'm not interested in reading them myself and exposing my community to such comments.
