Born on June 23, 1936, in Ganjam’s Bhanjanagar, Jalal completed his schooling from Government Queen Mission High Secondary School in Berhampur and intermediate from Khallikote College. He then went to pursue engineering and took admission in Jadavpur Engineering College.
After leaving job Jalal did theatres in Berhampur. He returned back to Cuttack and directed and composed music for Anutap, Nida Bhara Raati and Mun Tumaku Bhala Pae Luchi Luchi Kaa.
