”Happiness” seldom passed me by
And, not for long anyway,
A little patience, some passage of Time
And, I was again on my way
To the tavern around the corner
The one called, “Heaven”
With me, then, was ‘old’ Jack Horner
‘Twas evening, and the time was seven.
I hummed the rhyme of the little child
The one who ate the Christmas pie,
l gave you his name a while ago
He was little then but, now, not shy.
They say, great happiness lies in a glass full
And, no better place than a Tavern,
Fill it with what you like best, folks
For, emptiness is like the Urn.
As I filled the glass to the brim
The goblet looked at me,
Was I going to take its “happiness” away
And , leave it empty, yes, empty.
I thought I saw a look of despair
The goblet needing assurance
So, I whispered to it, but, softly
“Happiness” is ephemeral as is the midnight dance.
The goblet went looking for more “happiness”
As I savoured the drops in my glass,
A cheerful jug came back to me
It was a masterful class.
Never heard anyone wish anyone
A “contented” New Year
Let happiness be confined to the Tavern
Each night as you shed s tear.
Feliz Navidad or Happy New Year
A little catch there, folks,
It’s “we” who need to be happy
And, not the New Year that’s a hoax.
So, sit back, sip the glass
And, let “happiness” come and go,
Then, lie contented on your bed
And, like the waters, flow.
Let boulders come and gently go
Let the pace be nice and slow,
Let 2022 fill you with, Contentment
And, “happiness” manage its own show.
