Description

David Woronoff is a legend among the world of journalism and publishing in North Carolina. He became publisher of The Pilot newspaper in Southern Pines, NC on July 1, 1996 when he and a group of buyers including Frank Daniels, III and Frank Daniels, Jr. purchased it. Since then, Woronoff has led not only the growth of the publication named “Best Community Newspaper” in the country multiple times since 2015, but also a media empire spanning magazines, digital assets, a radio station and more.  David was named President of the North Carolina Press Association in 2010 after serving six years on its board, as the NCPA’s Professional Development Committee’s chairman for five years, and as the Association’s Legislative Committee chairman for three years. He also serves on the board of the Southern Newspaper Publishers Association. David was the first – and remains the only – community newspaper publisher appointed to the 112-year-old organization’s board of directors.  During the Paradise in the Pines podcast, Woronoff talks about life as a publisher, its challenges and how he has been able to diversify his product to stay competitive and maintain audience share. He also talks about the popular Open Daily special golf issue that was first published during the 1999 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 and continues to this day, most recently during the 2022 U.S. Women’s Open at Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club. Also, hear about how their radio station, Golf Rock Radio, teed off inside the Home of American Golf.   #ParadiseinthePines @Visit NC Industry Partners #PilotNewspaper #southernpinesnc #visitnc @The Pilot News
