Description

Drug manufacturer Eli Lilly has created a drug that has reduced the weight of "obese" people by 50 pounds. Yay? This week, we look at what words like "obese" and "overweight" actually mean, why they don't necessarily have anything to do with health, and why the medical community is still pretending that they do. We also ask the important questions, ones apparently left out of the regular news: does reducing your weight actually result in lowering mortality (hint: no)? Does it reduce your risk of diabetes or heart attack (hint: we don't know)? Does it cost a ton of money (hint: hell yeah)?
To help us personalize the story, we watch Brittany Runs a Marathon! She has a life full of bad decisions and a reason to try to get better, but can she overcome her real demons? By which I mean, society treating people like they are disposable garbage. No, she can't. But maybe also yes in a small way??? Listen to find out!
