Zechariah’s prophetic declaration over his baby son, John, comes at a time when God seems to have been silent for so many years. As Luke recounts the events around the birth of John the Baptist, we get an interweaving of personal stories (personal hopes and fears of ordinary people) and the big picture of God moving and fulfilling the great promises of the Old Testament and on a scale no one had ever imagined. There are pointers in the passage for us today:• God is visiting our nation and it is a time to step out in faith• In the heartbeat of salvation breaking out, there is a call to step up into more of what God has for us together• And there is an invitation to step into what God has for us as individualsAll of this is for the glory of Jesus and the good of the people he loves and intends to rescue.Passage; Luke 1:67-79
