This Dewees family bought their homesite after their first visit to the island. After vacationing on Dewees for nearly two decades, the family determined it was time to build their island retreat. The landscape and view drew them to this homesite. They love the constantly changing marsh and watching migrating birds.

The family worked with architects Bill Ashe and Scott Bartholomew with Asheville Architects and Naramore Construction for the build. They began developing their design years before they built. Their goal was to capture the view of the marsh and creek from every angle of their home.

This led their design team to come up with a rotunda or a round shaped home.

The family made the brilliant decision to build their staircase on the exterior of the house. They did this to save interior space and to allow them to isolate the guest floor, so when it is unoccupied they can set a more accurate heating and air conditioning temperature. They love to wake up and enjoy a quick burst of fresh air on their way to make coffee each morning.

For this family Dewees is their dream location. They most enjoy the daily activities of island life; walks on the beach with their puppy, cigars and happy hour on their porch, morning sunrises and nighttime full moons.
