Description

Hello. Welcome to Episode 1 of the podcast.

I’m your host. You can call me Dexter.

Have you ever watched a TV show, or a film and seen all those people in shot who aren’t the famous stars, the character actors or the bit-players who make their living doing a day or so on numerous different shows (I’m looking at you, John Ross Bowie)?

The legions of people who make up the rest of the shot - the office workers who sit behind their desks while Tom Cruise runs through their office chasing someone in Mission Impossible, the 500 soldiers who go ‘over the top’ in Steven Spielberg’s WWI saga ‘War Horse’, the people who walk around the market and Albert Square in Eastenders - these people are Supporting Artistes. Or - as they are usually known in the trade ‘Background’

And I’m one of them. I’ve been doing it for about 15 years and I both love and hate the job.

This podcast is a little about those experiences. I’ll also be talking a little about the role itself - chits, agencies, Unions etc, as well as giving you a couple of behind the scenes reveals about life on set and what it’s really like working with some of the top stars on the planet.

Welcome to Background Noise.
