Soccer player Drew Boyd gets real about the student athlete experience. Drew was a center back for the University of Portland, and went on to play for UC Irvine while getting his Masters in Business Analytics. He discusses how he navigated his relationships with various coaches, and formed a brotherhood with his teammates that will last a lifetime. Drew talks about the frustrations of limited playing time, and how he had to change his mindset to deal with the things that were out of his control. Drew’s student athlete experience was not always easy, but he never stopped betting on himself. Determined to make the most of his collegiate athlete experience, he helped build a community with other University of Portland athletes as Vice President of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee. He went on to win the Mr. Portland Award for UP Athletics for his involvement in the athletic department, and embodying the Portland spirit. Drew discusses how he has coped with the transition into life after college athletics, and how he found his love for the game again.
