Description

We've all been taught to only hire licensed or certified people. This is supposed to be because it means a third party has confirmed that they know what they claim to know.

Sadly, it's been my experience - where birthing tiny humans is concerned - that licensing and/or certification does not necessarily prove competence.

In this episode I share, briefly, my personal experience with a licensed and certified midwife that led to a still born. I do not name names, nor locations. This episode is not about hanging anyone out to dry nor to bring harm to anyone. It is a true story that needs to be told from the perspective of a midwife who has questions that will never be answered.

If you'd like to start your own journey into the question of whether or not licensing or certifying of midwives does good or harm, read Making Midwives Legal: Childbirth, Medicine and the Law by Raymond DeVries.
