Ryan Shazier is a retired NFL linebacker who earned Pro Bowl honors for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Shazier suffered a spinal cord injury while making a tackle on December 4, 2017. He was left a paraplegic, though after spinal stabilization surgery Shazier learned to walk again. Two years later, he effectively announced his retirement from football .
