In 2005 Star Trek: Enterprise was cancelled, and for the first time in 18 years there was no Star Trek on TV. A few years earlier Star Trek the next generation had crashed and burned at the theater so there was no Trek in theaters, either. It was a dark time for Trekkies, but there was a glimmer of hope on the horizon.
