Is the current story about yourself serving you? And is this the story you want to tell? The answer to the first question is "yes," if for no other reason that if it wasn't, you'd tell a different story. The answer to the second question is less obvious. If you're achieving a measure of satisfaction or attention, it's obvious that's the story you want to tell, but you will lack fulfillment because fulfillment cannot exist in the midst of dysfunction. It is a mindset of lack, which will never lead you to the life you want. It's a mindset that will perpetuate pain and misery. But if you want to live a life of gain or abundance, the starting point is to look at your histories with gratitude, to look on the pain or trauma with compassion knowing that it's shaped you into the person you've become. Doing so allows you to begin crafting new stories around the progress you're making toward your goals versus constantly judging yourself negatively for what's missing.
