At the very beginning of Va’etchanan, we read about Moshe describing to the people of Israel his plea with God to be let into the promised land. As it says in Deuteronomy 3:25, “Please! Let me go across and see the good land on the other side of the Yarden, that wonderful hill-country and the L’vanon!” Moshe already knew that God had decreed he not be let into the promised land, but Moshe asked anyway. Maybe God would be merciful and nullify the decree.

An Eternal Plea: The Echo of Va’etchanan
In the grand expanse of eternal light,
A voice did echo, profound and bright.
Va’etchanan, the plea was heard,
An entreaty strong, in every word.
For Moses yearned to tread upon,
The promised land, the sacred dawn.
Yet the decree, from Heaven's spire,
Commanded him to only aspire.
From mountain's peak, he cast his gaze,
Upon the land, in golden haze.
The dream withheld, a destiny unseen,
In his heart, forever it'd gleam.
Then echoed forth, in sacred speech,
Of Exodus, and the lessons it'd teach,
Of the voice of G‑d, midst fire's blaze,
An experience that still amazes.
"Hear, O Israel," the sage did tell,
"The Lord our God, the Lord is One, dwell,
In His words, His laws divine,
In your heart, let them shine."
Love the Lord, with heart and soul,
Make His teachings your only goal,
Bind them close, as signs on your hand,
On doorposts too, His commandments stand.
Though scattered we may be across the lands,
In the heart of the foreign sands,
Turn we will, to seek the divine,
Returning to obey the commandments, in time.
Va’etchanan, an eternal song,
Of faith and hope, where we belong.
In unity, in G‑d we trust,
In His wisdom, we place our thrust.
A blessing thus, upon us bestowed,
A path illuminated, a sacred road.
In Torah's light, we journey hence,
A voyage of love, of recompense.
