Jorge Castillo is a baseball reporter for ESPN, was previously a sports reporter for the LA Times, graduated from Yale, grew up in Worcester, Massachusetts, and is the proudest Puerto Rican I have ever met. The only person I know with a resume as impressive as Jorge’s is his wife, Aileen Villarreal-Castillo, season one guest of the podcast, and my good friend of almost 30 years. Power couple of the century, and two of the greatest people you’ll ever meet.
Jorge moved to LA in 2018 to work for the LA Times (but really to be with Aileen 😉). His latest career opportunity has taken him back to the east coast but before he left I wanted to hear about his LA experience. He admits that he was an “LA skeptic at best” and at worst thought he was not going to like living here. Listen to the episode to hear how the experience converted this East Coast man into a true Angeleno. We talked about writer’s block, imposter syndrome, finding joy in community, and all the latest buzz on Bad Bunny. I also got him on record saying that LA is going to be their permanent home one day. Press play!
