Deep in the heart of a dense forest, a community of chimpanzees live together in harmony....NOT!
Jodah and Dan have both recently watched Chimp Empire, the new Netflix documentary about a tribe of Chimps that live in the forests of Uganda. Although they both felt it was an amazing undertaking and cinematic, they were mostly intrigued to watch the chimpanzees encounter challenges such as limited resources and competition for mates, leading to power struggles and conflicts, as some individuals sought to dominate and control the groups. They apply Mark Van Vogt’s evolutionary leadership theory to their analysis of Chimp Empire to identify how the leadership behaviors of these tribes may be mapped to leadership behaviors in our more complex world today.
Question...what can we learn from the engagements of chimps in the wild? What evolutionary lessons can we leverage? Are there parallels to us and our work environments. Do you ever get a hankering to just grab a coat rack and run around the office screaming your head off]? We recommend you not to.
Watch as Dan and Jodah try to make sense of what they watched and attempt to harvest some leadership knowledge along the way.
