David was chosen to be king of Israel after Saul had disobeyed the Lord. Jesse's eldest sons, though they appeared kingly, were not chosen by God. Why? God told Samuel, "Man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart (see 1 Samuel 16:7). Ultimately David was chosen as the next king of Israel. What about David's heart made him the Lord's choice for the throne?
