It is the second and longest chapter (Surah) of the Qur'an. It consists of 286 verses, 6,201 words and 25,500 letters.
It is a Medinan surah. Surah Baqarah in Beautiful, calm and soothing recitation in 2022 Sahl ibn Sa’d reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, everything has a summit and the summit of the Quran is Surat al-Baqarah. Whoever recites it in his house at night, Satan will not enter his house for three nights. Whoever recites it during the day, Satan will not enter his house for three days.”

Ibn Abbas reported: While the Angel Gabriel was sitting with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, he heard a creaking noise above him. Gabriel raised his head and he said, “This is a door of heaven that has been opened today and it has never been opened before today.” Then an angel descended from it, and Gabriel said, “This angel descended to the earth today and he has never descended until today.” The angel greeted him with peace and he said, “Rejoice in two lights you have been given, which were not given to any prophet before you: the opening of the Book, Surat al-Fatihah, and the last verses of Surat al-Baqarah.
