There is no doubt from scriptures that Christians' primary loyalty and commitment is to their Master, Jesus Christ, and no one else. Scriptures demand that the believer's faith, dependence, and commitment is to be to God through the Lord Jesus, and anything short of this is regarded as rebellion or unbelief.
