GRIDIRON GRIOTS | Season 1 Episode 8 | Roommates
Matt Ware and Hamza Abdullah are retired NFL Veterans who last played as teammates with the Arizona Cardinals in 2011. During their time together Hamza Abdullah and Matt Ware were seat mates on the Team Plane. They would tell stories and laugh for the duration of the flight. From takeoff to landing, they would be leaning and rocking in their seat, laughing and cackling.
Matt suggested the dynamic duo do a Podcast about their stories from football.
But what to call it?
Football...Storytellers...Gridiron...Griots...GRIDIRON GRIOTS!
Matt and Hamza co-founded the Gridiron Griots to create a safe space and place for Former NFL Players to share their stories with each other, their families and their fans.
Matt Ware was an All-American in High School and College before leaving UCLA (#GoBruins) early to pursue his childhood dream of playing in the NFL. Matt was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the 3rd round of the 2004 NFL Draft but that wasn’t the first league he was drafted to. Matt also moonlighted as an outfielder on the baseball diamond and was chosen in the 21st round of the 2001 MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners. After playing two years in the Mariners farm system, Matt set his sights on the NFL and never looked back. Matt enjoyed a seven-year NFL career, one year in the Canadian Football League (CFL) and another in the United Football League (UFL). His travels, his experiences and his way of storytelling attracted the attention of the Gridiron Griots. Once his playing career ended, he was officially signed as a Gridiron Griot.
Hamza Abdullah played seven years in the NFL after being drafted in the 7th Round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Hamza played his collegiate ball at Washington State University (#GoCougs). Hamza played high school football at Pomona High School in Pomona, California and is the older brother of Pomona High and Washington State great, Husain Abdullah.
