Regular Meeting: February 28, 2022

Mayor Derek Williams read a quote regarding democracy from Mayor Vitali Klitschko of Kyiv, Ukraine, namely "Democracy cannot defend itself. It needs the will of its citizens and the commitment of everyone." 

Call meeting to Order. 

Council President James Hamill called the regular scheduled Borough Council meeting to order at 6:01 PM on Monday, February 28, 2022. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited. The meeting was conducted in the second-floor meeting room of Borough Hall, 958 Main Street, Honesdale, with a virtual participation option. A roll call of Councilors indicated the following were present at Borough Hall: President James Hamill, Vice-President Jason Newbon, David Nilsen, Michael Augello, James Jennings, Jared Newbon, and William McAllister. In addition, the following Borough officials were in attendance: Mayor Derek Williams, Solicitor Richard Henry, Secretary Judith Poltanis, and Director of Public Works Dan Brown. 

Additions to the Agenda 

President Hamill asked if there were any considerations to add to the agenda. Secretary Poltanis stated that a request for metered parking spaces was received as a supplement to the Girl Scouts request to use the Fred R Miller Pavilion. 

Mike Augello moved to add the request for parking spaces from the Girl Scouts to the agenda. Jason Newbon seconded the motion. MOTION CARRIED. Voice vote, 7-0 

Proclamation Presentation 

Mayor Derek Williams recognized representatives from Wayne Memorial Health System and Cottage Hose Ambulance who attended the meeting for maintaining community wellness with a proclamation on the second anniversary of the COVID-19 global pandemic with a proclamation. Mayor Williams declared February 28, 2022, "a day of sincere appreciation for health care workers, service providers, and essential job holders who have helped keep our hometown functioning and healthy under trying circumstances and as a day of remembrance for those we have lost yet hold dear in our hearts." James Pettinato, CEO, of Wayne Memorial Hospital and Fred Jackson, Executive Director, Wayne Memorial Community Centers thanked the Mayor and Council for the recognition. He introduced several hospital staff members, Dr. James Cruse, Danielle Hazimof, Lisa Champeau, and Tara Korb who were present at the meeting and who offered appreciation for the recognition. Stephen Fisch of Cottage Hose Ambulance thanked the Mayor and Honesdale Borough Council for their support and introduced the evening duty crew, Matt and Sarah, who accompanied him to the ceremony. Mayor Williams conducted the presentation of the proclamations and photos were taken.
