Description

Financialization is the process which financial institutions maximize profits and efficiency above all other operations. Today, we're seeing colleges and universities across the United States adopt some of these practices and being run more like businesses instead of traditional schools. From heavy allocations into alternative investments to severe cost cutting measures- Oberlin has embraced some of these principles in order to stay financially afloat. But are these measures necessary? Kelly Groetke, OC '89, and I talk about the misalignment between a booming endowment and the dire financial situation Oberlin claims to be in.
