This week on DingoTalk, we sit down with Austin Dickinson, the head football coach at Buena Vista University, as he prepares for his second season leading the Beavers.
Austin brings a wealth of experience to BVU. He previously served as the defensive coordinator at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where he coached six All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference players. Before returning to the Division III level, he was the recruiting coordinator and defensive coach at Minnesota State University-Mankato. During his time there, the Mavericks achieved a remarkable 27-2 record and reached the DII National Championship game. Under his guidance, their defense was ranked first in both total defense and scoring defense in 2019.
A 2010 BVU graduate, Austin was a standout player for the Beavers, earning four letters and starting for three years. After his playing career, he began coaching as a graduate assistant at Minot State University. He then returned to BVU in 2012, where he spent five years coaching the defensive line and serving as the recruiting coordinator, focusing on Iowa and Nebraska.
Austin's coaching journey also includes a stint at the University of North Dakota before his successful tenure at Minnesota State. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from BVU and a master’s degree in Education from Minot State.
Outside of football, Austin and his wife Whitney, also a 2010 BVU graduate, are proud parents to their daughter, Landry.
Tune in to hear more about Coach Dickinson’s career, his vision for BVU football, and his insights on coaching and recruitment.
