UNEXPECTED
I have always loved this picture of Jesus, laughing with the disciples, strong and vibrant, and energetic. It pleases my "Hollywood" image of the Savior.
But is that really who Jesus was? The prophet Isaiah says that the Messiah "had no beauty…to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him." Isaiah 53.2.
Jesus came in weakness, not strength; he befriended unexpected people - notorious sinners and pitiful outcasts - and he died on a Roman cross in shame.
In Jesus, the Bible reminds us that God is at work in our world in shocking and unexpected ways. The question for us is: Will we be open to it?
Join us this Sunday as we study the book of Judges. Be surprised by THE UNEXPECTED.
