Description

Welcome to the THIS ROAD podcast, a short encouragement for the road your life is currently leading you down.

In today’s episode, I would like to recognize the uncertainty we are currently facing. Every day the news gives us more bad information. Every day, it seems we are closer and closer to our company closing its doors, or being forced to self-quarantine. What a wild world it is.

But let’s not focus on the negative, if we can. I know, it’s difficult to block it out, but this past weekend, I have been drawn to a portion of scripture in the book of John. In John 15,16, and 17, Jesus is giving his final words to his 12 followers, the ones we call disciples. Throughout this portion, Jesus teaches, provides a warning, and provides encouragement, which culminates in a high priestly prayer.

The part that has stuck with me recently is John 16:31-33.

John 16:31-33 (ESV): Jesus answered them, “Do you now believe? 32 Behold, the hour is coming, indeed it has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home, and will leave me alone. Yet I am not alone, for the Father is with me. 33 I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Jesus is telling his followers what is to come. He says they will be scattered, forced into hiding, and ultimately would not stand with Jesus on his march to the cross. But Jesus doesn’t admonish them. Instead, he reminds them that the heavenly father will not turn his back on Jesus. He will be there. And knowing that God will always be there is meant to bring us peace. We are to have peace knowing that although this world is in turmoil, God is still here. Yes, Jesus, in the face of all he was about to go through, he still taught us there is peace in God.

Take heart, for Jesus, has overcome the world.
