Have you found yourself glued to the news recently? Does it ever leave you discouraged, worried, or hopeless? With all that is happening, we can find ourselves struggling to stay afloat in our emotions. The thing is, we will overcome this, right? We will endure if only, we will have hope.
This past week, I was reading my Bible and focused on the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead. The thing that caught me was that although Lazarus had already died, his sister, Martha, told Jesus that she knew He could still save her brother.
John 11:21-22 (ESV): Martha said to Jesus, “Lord if you had been here, my brother would not have died. 22But even now I know that whatever you ask from God, God will give you.”
It’s possible Martha was speaking out of blind faith, hysteria, or both. But when I read it, I see that Martha might be talking out of hope. Hope that does not rest in superstition, luck, or a “wanting” something to happen. But HOPE that rests in believing that Jesus is the Son of God and that he is capable of bringing the dead back to life. In fact, Jesus confirms her hope by saying that He is the resurrection and the life. We must simply have hope that Jesus is who he says he is.
As this world circles uncertainty, may we have hope in Jesus that he will intervene and bring us back to life. If only we will have hope.
