Advent is the four weeks prior to Christmas when Christians celebrate God's promise to send the Messiah to rescue the world. Christians have historically used this time to highlight prophesies about Jesus. The week after Christmas is when the traditional "Christmas sermon" is usually preached, focusing on the nativity and what it means. For our first week of Advent, we'll look at a beautiful passage from the prophet Isaiah. We see a desperate plea for rescue, and yet an acknowledgment that God must punish sin in order to uphold justice. How does God reconcile these two competing requirements---justice AND grace?
