By default, we want to come to God with our "resume." We want to bring our efforts to God and say "this is why I deserve to be part of your community." In the last sermon (see Romans no. 6), the Apostle Paul showed us that this isn't true. In this passage, Paul does the same thing he also did in the letter to the churches in Galatia---he uses Abraham as an example to showcase true faith v. false faith.
