Today is a Muscle Monday for the anatomy nerds. We're delving into the neck, the suboccipital group, specifically the Oblique Capitus Inferior. We take a look at it's important function with the AA/C1C2 joint, cervicogenic headaches, whiplash, dizziness, and normal movement. To understand function we need to better understand structure, even detailed physiological structure. For this we turn to yet another study comparing humans to chimpanzees. Even more interesting we talk about a study published this month by Scherer et al. that describes anatomical variations in the relationship between the Greater Occipital Nerve and the Oblique Capitus Inferior. Enjoy!
