Bearing witness to someone else processing such deep, intense emotion can bring up a lot in you, so be aware of your own triggers and know triggers are revealing something to you about yourself. They are not something to hide from, but to be gentle with as you uncover them. Also, notice how I guide. Notice the language I use, the tone of my voice at different times, the pausing and space vs. the movement and vocal guidance, the flow of the session.
My intention as a practitioner doing this kind of work is to BE the regulated nervous system the client didn't get when they expressed their emotions as a child. To be the loving witness who sees them as already whole and totally, 100% supports their emotional expression, encourages it, celebrates it.
The shame-healing is immense in these session. Each one is soooo different - it's always so interesting what comes through.
