I’m your Superintendent Jason Manuel and this is your GMSD Connection, a brief state of the district.

It’s been another incredible week in our schools.  I hope you are making plans to attend one of our spring festivals this weekend; Dogwood Spring Fest, Farmington Falcon Fest, or the Forest Hill FlashDance.  Head over to Houston High School to see Fiddler on the Roof.  Also, many of our juniors and seniors are headed to prom this weekend.

Send us pictures of your participation in any GMSD weekend event for the roundup next week, or post them to social media with the hashtag #SpottedGMSD.  We’ll be awarding a prize to the best picture or moment captured!

This week the Germantown Board of Education met to discuss and voted on 9 policies.  They also recognized scholastic art award winners and Ellie Talley as this month’s Employee that Empowers.  See the policies or read about the recognitions in your roundup.

• Congratulations to all of those who are being recognized by GMC PTO in this year’s art and writing contest, themed “My Happy Place”.  Check out the newsletter to see and read the winning submissions.
• Here Ye Here Ye, the 2022 Germantown Charity Horse Show has crowned its new princesses which included several GMSD students.
• At Riverdale, the 8th grade Junior Honor’s Society is collecting items for the Fayette County Animal Rescue from now through May 16th.
• Also at Riverdale this week, students created works of art through the magic of clay & chemistry in a special barrel fire experience.  The lesson brought an ancient technique alive for art students.
• Congratulations to Melanie Moss for being named the April Teacher of the Month by the Germantown Education Commission.  Join her at city hall on April 11th for a recognition ceremony.
• A special thank you to the Steamfitters Union for providing an exciting field trip for our students last week.
• Have you ever wondered about playing volleyball?  The HHS volleyball team is offering a new series of clinics.
• Read a spotlight on our student teachers in GMSD.  Thank you for your service!
• Congratulations to Christina Park and Shirley Kong for taking the grand prize in last weekend’s Battle of the Brains for their project Evaluating Socioeconomic Status of Germantown Residents through statistical analysis
