“Expanded Universe.” It was a key concept beginning in the 90s all the way until the Disney takeover, when it was replaced in official Lucasfilm jargon by “Canon” and “Legends.” But is there room for the concept now? And how might it inform the relationship–not just of “expanded materials” to the Saga films, but of the movies to “expanded materials” and most of all to the films in themselves?
