Description

Angela L. Chostner is an artist, painter and poet in St. Louis. Her art speaks to the Sacred Essence in us all.

What she creates today originated as a way to find herself in the midst of the challenges of motherhood. Her work is infused with meditation, prayer and intention, and her themes are all virtue-based. The soul language of her work revolves around one core belief:

Within all of us is the capacity to love without reservation, express ourselves fully and recognize the beauty in each other and ourselves.

Growing up in a small town in Ohio, Angela created illustrated books for her young cousins and enjoyed all things related to art and writing. After going to art school, she worked as a graphic designer, illustrator for the children's market, and art teacher.

Once getting married and becoming a mother to two adopted children, Angela focused her energies on raising her family. But it soon became apparent to her she could not offer the best of herself to her children if she denied her own needs, her own spirit. What began as a way to find herself again- creating reiki-infused paintings that expressed her heart, soon took on a life of its own. Large canvases took over every room of her home and friends begged her to share her creations with others. Once she found the courage to show her work publicly in 2017, she discovered how something so intensely personal could simultaneously be universal, and could touch other hearts as well.

Six years later, after many exhibits, solo shows, community collaborations, art talks and clothes ruined by paint, Angela is still exploring the energy of virtues. The evolution for her has been from singular virtues expressed in earlier paintings- Trust, Gratitude, Forgiveness, to more complex themes that integrate several virtues at once such as the paintings her latest solo exhibit, “Belonging: Paintings & Poetry by Angela L. Chostner”. She has completed her 3rd book of paintings and poetry to accompany this exhibit.

Angela’s work is found in private collections around the country. Her prints, greeting cards and journals are found at galleries, boutiques and retreat centers. Her art degree is from the Art Academy of Cincinnati, but her deepest education has come from the melding of her spiritual and artistic life.
