I finally understand what people meant when they would tell me to get pissed off in sports. Growing up, I was a soft kid, and still am at heart, so I had a hard time being super aggressive, which is sort of important in the sport of football. My coaches would try to help me with this by telling me things like, "Get angry", "Imagine they hit your mom!" or "All of them want to beat you up!". They all meant good and wanted me to get out of my head and use what I had: a strong body that could perform much better than what I was showing. I've always been kind at heart. I didn't like being super aggressive for a few reasons, 1) I didn't see the point in most cases 2) I wasn't very angry, so "Turning it on" was difficult unless I was pissed off. However, life has an interesting way of teaching you lessons. When I was young, I didn't have a lot of anger; now, it's much easier to use that emotion. However, it can be hard to control. Using anger, or other "Negative" emotions is a powerful source of energy and motivation, yet it must be channeled into something, not allowed to run free. Being angry isn't a state to live in, when used appropriately, it unleashes a whole new side of yourself.
