I've been on a death penalty kick. I read and obsessed over The Bet by Anton Chekov months ago. That story led me to looking into solitary confinement and attempting to rewrite my own version of the story. I ended up reading and really liking The Executioner's Song by Norman Mailer. Researching ideas from Mailer's book led me to Dale Brumfield.
